Welcome to Nelson's centre city! Buxton Square features such Sun City classics as Farmers, Noel Lemming and 623 in the City. It also features a cheery little public toilet complex right in its centre. Nelson's city council has made an effort to have these toilets looking as bright as possible and really if there is one thing you'd love to shit on during your life isn't it a work of art?
You honestly can't miss these loos; just look for the building in Buxton Square's centre that could pass for a five year old's luridly colored art project. Check out the backside of this building if you want to see some lovely murals of NZ's native wildlife too. Inside is just as much an LSD-fueled hallucination as the outside; each of the stall doors features a unique piece of artwork and the design is somehow modern meets minimalist meets rustic meets kiwiana meets that ugly piece of kindergarten art your child did with too many clashing colours that you stick on the fridge even though you go cross-eyed every time you look at it.
There's women's, men's and disabled access toilets as well as a baby changing station so Buxton Square has almost everyone covered (my gender-nonconforming pals seemed to have been forgotten on this one). The ladies part features four stalls but, worry not, the only nausea-inducing part of this experience was the colour scheme.
All an all, Buxton Square's public shithole is anything but! Nice job, Nelson City Council; you've done something right!
Happy crapping!
