Get Some Culture!

Hello crappers!

I'm back with another bookstore! We're on a roll (although not a toilet roll this time)! This one is a chain called Book Culture. Officially, the store is called Book Culture LIC. The "LIC", I realize now, stands for Long Island City which is where there store was. 26-09 Jackson Ave to be exact.

It looks small and quaint from the outside but the inside is anything but. This is an ultra-modern, open plan space with so much natural and artificial light that it just exudes happy reading vibes. In the center of the store, there's a staircase that heads down to a basement dedicated to children's books. On either side of this stairwell, there are catwalks which really adds to the modern library vibe. There's even a ladder that slides along the shelves which is such an old-timey library aesthetic.

Book Culture LIC has a great selection of books and a lot of other cool stuff besides; candles, tea-making stuff, posters, cool wrapping paper and even amusing greeting cards:

I think my favourite thing about Book Culture LIC was the "blind date with a book". A table near the checkout had stacks of gift wrapped books. Each little package had a slip of paper taped to it that said something along the lines of "Read this if you like..." before listing a bunch of books similar to the one in the package. I always love when bookstores go the extra mile by doing cute things like this that help people discover interesting new books.

Book Culture LIC was a great experience and I'm pleased I walked 40 minutes to get there! You can check out their website, complete with addresses for the other locations. If you ever near any of them, I would recommend having a look. If the other locations are as good as the Long Island City one, then you won't be disappointed!

Happy reading, Crappers!
